Sandstone is a Classic sedimentary rock that forms from the cementing together of sand sized grains forming a solid rock. Quartz is the most abundant mineral that forms sandstone. When Calcium carbonate, silica or iron are present, presence of water along with sand grains form Sandstones. Sandstone is often formed in layers. Some sandstones are extremely hard to work with where as some are so homogeneous and soft that they are suitable for carving. The color of the rock is largely determined by the cementing material - iron oxides produces reddish-brown sandstone, and the other materials produce sandstone in white, gray or yellow tones.
Sandstone are highly acclaimed for its natural beauty for exterior or interior use. Because of its architectural properties, sandstone is found suitable medium that is used to for landscape and architectural building products.
